Saturday we all went to 5th Street Restaurant in Christchurch for dinner to celebrate Angel’s birthday and a pre-birthday for Joanne. The food was excellent, served share plate style and a good selection of meat and vegetarian dishes.

Sunday, was checkout day from our Dipton pet sit and an excursion into Christchurch to the Cellar Door, at the Art Centre, where we had a wine tasting and snacks. They have it pretty well sorted, with four x 40ml samples per flight. Jo and Flashy did two flights, including whites, orange and red wines. The selection was not limited to NZ wines either. Lady P had a sip of some of the flights and had a very interesting flight of vermouths. Their food was excellent. White anchovies on sourdough toast; Hapuka ceviche; venison tartare; hand cut chips and buttercrunch salad. Searching for hoki poki icecream on the way home was eventually successful at the back of Riverside Markets.

Sunday night was our turn to entertain and we went out to Brett and Angel’s 10 acre lifestyle block, where Flashy and Lady P delivered a dinner for seven consisting of hummous, beetroot dip and tzatziki with warmed flat breads; slow cooked lamb shoulder with Moroccan spices; lemony Greek chicken; garlic smashed potatoes; tabouli; roasted root vegetables and a Greek salad. Flashy’s feijoa frangipane tart and vanilla ice cream was also a hit. Lots of very loud talking and a good night with the family.

Last night we were in the Lincoln Motel, a very clean and modern two bedroom apartment with full kitchen! An early morning walk to the bakery and Flashy returned with a Kiwi classic - an egg and bacon pie with gorgeous crispy pastry and a couple of very good coffees. They were well received by the other two. The morning was spent doing washing, booking accommodation and car hire for the US and packing cases. Jo was hooked into her work and Flashy supplied the coffee and snacks.

Generous flights.
Relaxed.
Serious work.
White anchovies.
Venison tartare.
